Katie was the first young lady officially placed with Hannah Grace Homes in Florida. If any girl’s story reflects what we want to be about, it’s hers.
Her mother abused drugs for many years, to the extent that some of her eight brothers and sisters were born with fetal alcohol syndrome. Because of the instability in her home, Katie was forced to grow up quickly and become a mother of sorts to her siblings.
The children were removed several times from their home, a situation that ultimately became permanent. As the children were placed in various locations, it was a struggle for Katie, who landed in two other foster homes before coming to Hannah Grace Homes. Because she was older, it seemed as if no one would consider adopting her.
She arrived on our campus with some serious questions about who she was and how to find her place in life. But we’re working to help her get on the right track, and she’s making incredible progress on an almost daily basis. We’ve learned that she has ambitions for college and a career, among other goals for her life.
Our desire is to help Katie become the young lady she hopes to be. Despite a life that started badly, riddled with challenges and obstacles, she’s on her way.
